Yogi Adityanath - Making a mockery of law

The Yogi Adityanath government has ordered withdrawal of a case against the chief minister and a dozen others for holding a meeting in alleged violation of prohibitory orders over 22 years ago.

The Adityanath government’s order to withdraw the case against the chief minister was issued last week, just a day before the Uttar Pradesh Criminal Law (Composition of Offences and Abatement of Trials) (Amendment) Bill, 2017 was tabled in the state assembly.

Before the bill was tabled, Adityanath told the House that 20,000 “politically-motivated” cases were filed across the state over protest demonstrations. The amendment would bring to an end all these cases pending before magistrates till 31 December 2015, he said.

The case was pending in a Gorakhpur court which had earlier directed that non-bailable warrants (NBWs) be issued against the accused for non-appearance.

In May this year, shortly after Adityanath took over the reins of the state, his government had told the Allahabad high court that he cannot be prosecuted in another case for allegedly making a hate speech that was said to have triggered communal riots in Gorakhpur in 2007.

The government refused to grant the mandatory sanction for his prosecution. Adityanath, who was then the local MP, made the alleged hate speech following the killing of a Hindu youth in a clash between two groups during a Muharram procession.

Setting a precedent

Yogi Adityanath is setting a precedent that one can violate laws and throw out all legal proceedings after coming to power. This provides more incentive to violate laws.

There was a joke on Sonia Gandhi a couple of years ago - Sonia Gandhi reviewed Sonia Gandhi's performance after recent poll defeat and affirmed that Sonia Gandhi should lead the party. The latest version is Yogi Adityanath felt that Yogi Adityanath did not commit any crime and Yogi Adityanath agreed So Yogi Adityanath asked Yogi Adityanath to withdraw all cases against Yogi Adityanath.

Hope we are all enjoying the charade of our soon to be PM Yogi ji. If there is no crime there is no criminal. Master stroke. Please vote for Yogi as PM. Yogi, Yogi, Yogi.

Cartoonists have highlighted the satire
