Those generous posts

Recently I came across a post which gave generous tips to share with girls
1. Press all buttons to your floor when in company of a strange male.
2. Pretend to give the number of rickshaw you are sitting in.
Etc.
So what it means is that in presence of a 'strange' male in lift a girl should panic, act deranged and press all buttons of a lift. Further she should always be defensive about going anywhere.
I came to the following central idea of the above suggestions
"Girls should be on the look out as they cannot defend themselves."
In a male-dominated society like ours male ego feels superior to women and gives charitable suggestion based on the  assumption that women are no match for it.
I guess those who disburse such ideas have not written for what should a boy do in company of strange female at night in lift?

  1. Though I understand such suggestions hurts FEMALE EGO but then the intentions were mistook. The "Suggester" only intend to give ideas to those girls who someday may find themselves in such a troubled situation! He/She only seems to be concerned of his fellow people. (How did you assumed that suggester was a male??)
Please also note that this facebook post is also being shared by many girls.

Few suggestions like calling friends/family and telling cab registration no. aloud may sound good but few of them like pressing all button in a lift make them look paranoid but the It's always better safe than sorry.

And if we accept your basic premise that suggester is a a male then there is an underlying fact to these suggestion that all guys aren't good n may harm girls in some ways or other. Author and most of the guys like me painfully admit it to be true and wish this wasn't the case.

PS:- I am not the one who gave such suggestions at the first place.

But Should you be paranoid all your life? Is it desirable?

  3. But it is a hard fact. Guys haven't experienced that feeling, which is why they can't be expected to empathise. Once,I was in the lift and some weird looking guy got in, pressed all the numbers in the panel. I got out when the lift stopped on the first floor.

What should have been a good thing to do then? I didn't have a phone, and it was really scary.

  4. Dear Anonymous,
Everybody gets in difficult situations even Guys. Believe me that happens a lot - A bunch of guys feel They are too macho and try to intimidate a lone guy not kowtowing to them. Both mental (more so) and physical strength (if it gets to that) are involved in handling the situation because Even Bullies fear backlash They just hide it better.

Can always running away from situations help? Is it advisable?
