Is your laptop keyboard misbehaving? If Yes, Read on

Recently my Asus laptop keyboard started typing stuff on its own (Not that I had been tutoring it).
So the only way to use my laptop was to

1. Manually disconnect the keyboard from computer
2. Disable the keyboard in windows

Step 1 involved opening my laptop using screw drivers which was a difficult task for me.

So I disabled my keyboard in windows. Here is how.

Important Note: Before starting make sure that You have a separate USB keyboard connected to your laptop So that you

I opened Device Manager
(Right click My computer icon and select Properties. There is a link on left to open Device Manager.)
Select Keyboard option and right click PS2 keyboard.
Now select update Driver Software.
Select 'Browse my computer for driver software'.
Now select 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'
Now uncheck Show compatible drivers option.
Now select a company other than your Laptop manufacturer and unusual layout (Toshiba keyboard with 109 keyboard did the trick for me.)
Click Next.
Agree to the warning that your keyboard might stop working.
Install the driver and after restarting the laptop. Your misbehaving keyboard is disabled.

Places to visit in Thane, Mumbai

I was looking for beautiful places to visit in Mumbai. Some I found in Thane are

1. Kopineshwar Temple in Thane

This temple has a huge Shivling and lots of pigeons in the backyard.

Note: Be sure to carry some grains if you want to feed the pigeons in backyard.

Directions: Exit from the Thane station west side and walk straight through the Thane market for 1 km. You will see the temple on your left.

2. Talao Pali or Masunda lake

This is a lake just behind the Kopineshwar temple. It's a good place to sit and enjoy the lake.

There is boating also available.

3. Upvan Lake

This is a beautiful lake around 6 km from Railway station. You can either take an auto or bus from station to reach Upvan lake.

The lake waters is clean and you can walk around the lake to enjoy the beautiful view of Mumbai and the lake.

Why you should give up gas subsidy?

Mr. Modi recently went around urging people to give up gas subsidy for the benefit of nation. It all sounds good till you realize his government is the one raising gas production prices without providing any reason for it.

Gas Prices are the monopoly of the government and this allows a lot of room for favours.

In May Mr. Modi was sworn as Prime Minister. In October, just after assembly elections, he raised gas production prices paid by government to ONGC, Reliance by 33% from 4.2$ per million BTu to 5.61$ per million BTu.
Mind you this increase in gas prices was ad hoc and no reason was given for it.

Every dollar increase in gas price will lead to a Rs 1,370 per tonne rise in urea production cost and a 45 paise per unit increase in electricity tariff (for just the 7 per cent of the nation's power generation capacity based on gas).
Also, there would be a minimum Rs 2.81 per kg increase in CNG price and a Rs 1.89 per standard cubic metre hike in piped cooking gas.

In a way he made good on his promise to his financiers (after all somebody has to pay for those planes) by screwing the exchequer. Now that's a man, I like - a man of his word - to the party and his financiers. Nation be damned!

Sorry! I sound very anti-national. But with folded hands, I urge those who believe in him to ignore the above facts - Please do give up your subsidies. Some companies need it more than you do. :)

Movie to watch: Bad Teacher (2011)

Bad Teacher :
It is an unusual movie starring Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake and Jason Segel (Marshall from 'How I met your mother'). Watch it as a time pass on a free day, if you are getting bored.

P.S. You will find it difficult to watch, if you get judgey about ethics. Cameron Diaz is the teacher with no scruples.

[Movie] Oblivion (2013)

Oblivion is a a movie set in post apocalyptic world. It has great performances by Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman and Andrea Riseborough. 

I wouldn't like to spoil the plot by revealing too much. So watch it for sci-fi, suspense and romance, I enjoyed the movie and especially the Oblivion soundtrack by Susanne Sundfor and M83 at the end of movie is worth mentioning. :)

USB 3.0 port not working on Asus X53TK (Solved)

Hi,
I am running Windows 7 - 64 bit but my single USB 3.0 port won't work.
If you are also one of the harried souls whose USB 3.0 port is not working on Asus X53TK, read on.. :)

My Asus X53TK for some curious reason did not show USB 3.0 host controller in Device Manager instead there was an "Unknown device" in SM Bus Controller. I tried all kinds of stuff - downloaded AS media driver, NEC driver, edited driver files to install Before fortunately arriving at the fix below.

(For Device Manager: Right click "My Computer". Click 'Properties'. Click Device Manager)

Step 1: Uninstall the pesky "Unknown device"
Just right click the "Unknown device" entry in device manager. Click "Uninstall". Click OK.

If you have installed ASMedia driver for USB 3.0 or NEC USB 3.0 driver. Please uninstall them too.

Step 2: Download Chipset_AMD_Compal_Win7_64_Z897300000 driver from Asus website (Link: http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=3&m=X53TK). It is a 215 MB zip file.

It is the latest Chipset driver for X53TK. (see pic below)

Step 3: Extract the zip file and run setup.exe from it.
It will install USB 3.0 Host Controller and your USB 3.0 port should start working.
