There is one aspect that is overlooked by parents when they try to marry off their son/daughter- In their over-protectiveness they interfere with the relationship of husband and wife. They look at marriage as a financial transaction where they are marrying off their son/daughter to somebody who is rich. The other person who marries their son/daughter is just there to pay the bills.
I find this approach so shitty and materialistic - It enrages me that people do not see that marriage is a life long bond where your son/daughter try to make something together in life and look at it more as a financial transaction for fulfilling wishes.
Do people understand that marriage is not about getting a rich spouse to fulfill all your son/daughter's wishes? (And I am not saying that the spouse will not care or try to fulfill your son/daughter's wishes because as anyone who ever loved somebody will attest, it brings immense joy to fulfill the wishes of your lover even more than your own.)
Marriage is about letting your son/daughter build their own personal relationship with their spouse.
