When we look at today's urban society We see a single minded focus on earning money as the sole aim of life.Money is regarded as the definition of success in life.You are successful in proportion to the amount of money you make.
I wouldn't say that money does not influence my decisions with regard to profession in life but what I seek to understand is "Where does this single minded focus lead us?"
When money is seen as an end in itself.
I would like to discuss some social distortions:
Parenting:
With rising costs of schooling and ever growing lists of expensive gadgetry for children (viz. playstation, iphone, ipad etc.)Some Parents have confused parenting with earning to fulfill every expensive wishes of their children.Naturally such parents sacrifice time to be spent with children for earning. Then to compensate for the time lost parents spend Quality time with children, which means Parents spend only a few hours with children every week and to make it a "quality time" They would usually take them to fun park, buy expensive gifts to show affection.
Gradually children equate affection with money and Parents wonder How their children continuously demand from them, but do not seem to show affection for the sacrifices they make in raising them.
What parents don't seem to realize is that Children are not assets to be managed, They require "time" not "quality time".
Conspicuous consumption leading to encouraging crimes:
When a 12th grade kid wears a Rolex, carries 5000 Rs in his purse along with credit card.It is -quite obvious that the criminal elements wouldn't miss up on such opportunity.

I believe money needs to be not looked as a substitute for responsiblities but as an enabler.
So a better approach would be "Money with morals", perhaps a point to discuss :)
